What is going on?
The word is 'our' pronounced exactly like 'hour'. (Isn't English a hoot?)
It is not pronounced 'R' as in 'are'.
Please let us stomp out this slide of sounds. This is a short but I feel important diatribe.

Election 'Fraud'
Let me see if I understand this correctly.
Credit Card Companies can record and print out every one's (hundred of thousands) of purchases and bills to the penny and print out monthly statements.
Phone companies can keep a record of every call - the number called from and to - and print out a record at the end of the month with the exact time of each call to the second.
And somehow we are to believe that the technology and ability does not exist to record every citizens vote accurately once every two years or so?
Americans capacity to put up with utter drivel and total incompetence from our government has reached stupefying levels.

Alternative Energy
After all these years it is perhaps a bit gratifying that the Republicans are coming around to the position on alternative power that the much maligned but apparently forward looking Jimmy Carter took in the '70's.
His plan was to promote these major shifts in the most progressive and tax neutral way - via the method of 'tax incentives'. Perhaps if these were called 'tax cuts' the average Republican could understand the concept.
(Of course one wonders why the present day Democrats can not even see when they have been dealt a winning hand.)
Mr. Carter set up an energy policy that (had it not been destroyed and thrown out by Reagan) would today perhaps be bearing meaningful fruit. It was an energy policy that was aimed at reducing our country's dependence on foreign oil. Perhaps that has a familiar ring?
The global giants of Petroleum lobbied hard and bought television spots explaining how there would always be an endless supply of cheap oil. (All they needed where tax incentives for that costly exploration.) Tax incentives to large profitable corporations and wealthy investors are good for the economy they tell us. While tax relief for the increasingly oppressed middle and lower classes are luxuries that we can not afford.
At the very least these alternative energy programs and incentives created jobs and small business's. Which is another thing to which the Republicans always give verbal support.
I live in Arizona and I can tell you that we have a wonderful supply of Solar Energy. During the late 70's and early 80's there were scores of small companies beginning in the most rudimentary and primitive forays into Solar Power Usage. The elimination of the tax incentives by the Reagan administration scrapped the budding industry.
The alternative is to wait until gas hits 3 or 4 dollars a gallon ... oops. Then we could as a nation once again flail and panic. After all we have the leadership we deserve. If the electorate insists on being told what they want to hear.
Where are the leaders that American needs. The ones who will tell them the real story. The one's who can convince through rhetoric and persuasion that a bit of sacrifice now may forestall an awful price that may have to be paid later.
When comes to terrorism the Neo Conservatives seem to love to push the panic button every day. When it comes to Energy usage and awareness there is a real threat that they could warn us of and perhaps save us from.
Note to Democrats. Do something. Stand for something. Perhaps you could explain how raising the minimum wage to an amount that wasn't an insult - Perhaps to the levels it was (prorated for inflation) that it was in the 60's? You could explain how much tax income this would provide. You let the Republicans call you "tax and spend". When will you call the Republicans what they are "Spend and borrow".

The Fourth
I have called Arizona home for almost twenty years now and I still fail to understand why car dealerships and other non essential businesses are open on the fourth of July.
Why do the people and government of Arizona not consider Independence Day to be a reverent day of respect for our Country?
Shouldn't patriots consider the fourth of July be a true National Holiday? Does it not seem that there is more to loving what our country stands for than flying a big flag?
As far as respect goes I often wonder about Sundays as well and think that the world, when there were blue laws, was a kinder gentler and more peaceful place.

Hemp Costs
Recent votes on legalizing marijuana use for medical purposes set alarming precedents. This is only the tip of the iceberg.
What will happen if it becomes generally known that commercial use of the Hemp plant can adversely affect chemical companies, cotton farmers, and other industries such as the lumber and paper producers of this country.
Much time and money has been spent demonizing this plant and we should think carefully before opening the door even a little to changing the status quo.
According to the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, one acre of hemp can produce 4 times more paper than one acre of trees. And that is every year not every twenty. Do we really want to risk putting these loggers out of business?
Hemp produces twice as much fiber per acre as cotton. Cotton requires enormous pesticide use - 50% of all pesticides used in the U.S. are used on cotton. Substituting hemp for cotton would drastically reduce pesticide usage. This would hurt our chemical companies.
Hemp can also be substituted for cotton to make textiles. Hemp fiber is much stronger than cotton and can be used to make all types of clothing. While Cotton grows only in warm climates and requires enormous amounts of water. Hemp requires little water and grows in all 50 states. What about the poor cotton farmers?
Folks in the media should be careful or facts like these could reach the general public. The lumber companies and cotton producers spent a lot of good money back in the 1930’s on lobbying to have marijuana outlawed. They must watch what they print on this issue.
And what of the recent bill to spend more billions more on our governments continuing unsuccessful interdiction efforts. How can you consider putting these DEA folks out of work?
We must be careful. The 17% of the federal prisoners held due to strict Marijuana laws create jobs in our rapidly growing prison industry.
We can not permit thses truths to leak out...

Baseball Babies
The rule is that if the batter gets hit by a pitched ball... he is awarded first base.
That is the rule. Now it would seem that this is not enough for the "modern" player. So does the rule need to be changed? Should the batter get a double? A homerun perhaps? Should the team at bat be given a run on the scoreboard?
If the current rule is not enough - change the rule book.
Let us forever ban the supposed and stupid "unwritten rules" of baseball. Certainly the rule book under any circumstance should not read. "Charge the mound." Or to have your pitcher go out and throw at the other team. This is also caca.
Here is the rule. Get hit by a pitch. Go to first base.
If you are afraid. If this is not enough for your gentle sensibilities. There is Golf. There is Bowling. You can play another sport.
And if you want to Box instead there is that route.
But let's get the babies out of baseball.
Let us be men and take your base.

The Easy Way To Solve the "Banking" Problem
OK This is really not that difficult. How to fix the mortgage and banking problem...
Issue mortgages to folks in trouble at 3.5 or 4.0 percent.
Now they have a mortgage right from the US Government - So the bank is paid off.
Bankers can do what they will with their capitol. Go sit on your money. Buy Euros or whatever will keep you in Greenwich or the Hampton's.
Meanwhile, The loan will get paid off. Billions won't just go missing in the night. Mortgage Brokers can get back to work. And oh yeah. The Government gets paid back... We get out money back.
So mortgages are paid off. Banks have capitol. People stay in their homes. Tax payers get paid back. It really can be this easy.
By pass the banks.
And when the homes are sold or refinanced (usually within seven years) the government is out of the Mortgage business once again.
One can flesh this out of course. But the bare bones are easy to see. Am I that big of a genius? Is there really no one in Washington that can think straight?
This is easy. "Cash for Clunker Mortgages". Clean. Finite.
If you want to waste millions you can issue the banks checks for the "write downs". Have appraisers set the values. Issue the Mortgages.
Just please stop giving rich people more money in hopes that the poor will eventually get some of it.
Obama hear my plea.
